Collecting data is more than just asking questions or filling out forms—it’s about gathering the right information the right way, to support informed decision-making.
To do this effectively, Performance and Financial and Management Officers (PFMOs) need to develop key skills and a clear understanding of how to engage with people, use the data collection software properly, and manage information responsibly.
This session will cover the core skills needed to ensure high-quality data collection at PHCs.
Key Skills for Effective Data Collection
Effective Communication: Clearly express yourself and actively listen to ensure accurate understanding during interactions at PHCs. Accurate Data Entry: Carefully input both qualitative and quantitative information into the correct fields within the software. Observe carefully and be attentive to detail: Avoid errors by reviewing responses and ensuring all required information is complete and accurate. Time Management: With an estimated three hours per facility and a minimum target of two visits monthly, effective time use is critical. Cultural Competence: Show respect for local customs, language and practices to build trust and encourage cooperation with the Officer in Charge (OIC) and PHC staff.
